MID FACE AND FOREHEAD LIFT
It is preferred when the sagging of the face, including the eyes, around the cheeks and lips, is excluded, when the under-chin and jowls are not involved. It is mostly seen with loss of skin elasticity, and if there are factors such as excessive sun exposure and smoking, the signs of aging on the skin become more evident. But not only these factors, but also the effect of gravity causes sagging and loosening of the skin and muscle layer on the face.
Again, the deep lines formed by the facial expressions a person uses in parallel with what he does further deepen aging. The weakening of the bones with age, and especially the shrinking of the jawbone, worsens the situation as the skin over it becomes loose. Before explaining the facelift procedure, it is useful to examine the results of facial aging by dividing the face and neck area into three.
When we look at the middle part of the face, the cheeks and cheekbones, which are prominent on the young face, become flat and even hollow as a result of both the decrease in the amount of fat on the cheeks with age and the sagging of these fat pads together with the facial muscles and skin that carry the skin. The folds starting from both sides of the nose and going down from around the mouth deepen. Cracks form all around the mouth, perpendicular to the lips and sagging towards the chin.
Forehead and eyebrows are the first signs of aging on the face. Dark circles on the eyes start in the 20s, then the lower eyelid and eyebrows start to droop, with the frequency of use of facial expressions, lines on the outside of the eye that we call “crow’s feet” are formed, and vertical lines appear on the forehead and between the eyebrows. The phenomenon is accompanied by accumulation and sagging of the fat pads, mostly in the lower lid, and an aged face is formed.
Although there are many different techniques in the forehead lift operation, it is usually cut from the inside of the scalp to prevent scars from being visible. Now, with technological developments, incisions are shorter. It is usually added during midface lift surgery. The details are explained together with the eyebrow lift. (See frowning eyebrows.)
Midface surgeries are performed to rejuvenate the area between the eyes and mouth, including the cheeks and cheekbones. The cheeks and cheekbones, which are full in youth, become flatter with age. The aim of midface lift surgery is to move the facial muscles and skin that carry the midface together upwards to its natural place. In this way, the cheeks become fuller, deep wrinkles around the mouth disappear and the face gets rid of the tired expression. To perform this procedure, a cut is made along a line that will not leave a mark between the lower eyelid and eyelashes. (Lower eyelid rejuvenation and under-eye bag removal surgery can be performed in the same session) In addition, small incisions that will not leave a scar can be made on the scalp. It can also be done using endoscopy.
Non-surgical face suspension techniques can also be used. Although these do not provide as effective and permanent results as surgery, they provide a partial recovery for patients who are hesitant about surgery. For this purpose, specially produced surgical sling threads (aptos) are placed in the midface area by opening only small holes. Its effect may last up to one and a half or two years. Midface aesthetics with surgery are permanent, but aging is a process that continues after the surgery is completed and its effects will appear over a long time.
